Amid staff shortage in healthcare, employers are adjusting to short-term changes and hoping for long-term solutions
For more than a month, personnel issues took center stage during the Mercy Hospital strike at the Catholic health care system.
But the staffing shortage goes beyond Mercy, and every healthcare provider – in western New York state, state and country – is feeling the pinch.
All of them are bolstering their recruiter payrolls, making nationwide links in the search for workers. They offer signing bonuses, in an effort to stand out. And, in the short term, they pay huge bonuses for agency workers.
This is a problem that is not going to go away any time soon.
